
The Larkin Legacy
Shirley Larkin, Founder
Shirley taught dance for nearly 60 years. She was a graduate of Chicago National Association of Dance Masters. She served as president and secretary of the Minnesota Chapter of National Association of Dance and Affiliated
Artists from 1962 until 1970. She was National President Emeritus of Professional Dance Teachers Association.
In addition to her busy schedule, Shirley choreographed
many musicals, taught dance workshops and has judged
numerous dance competitions. She was known by many
in the studio competition industry as the 'Matriarch of
Dance.' In the 61 years she ran Larkin Dance Studio she
influenced the lives of thousands of dancers, teachers,
parents, and friends.
Mrs. Larkin passed away on August 10, 2011 surrounded
by her family. The Larkin staff will work harder than ever
to keep her legacy alive and to continue to teach students
to dance "the Larkin way."
